If you’re considering becoming a professional makeup artist, choosing the right course can feel overwhelming. There are many professional makeup courses in Singapore, with different class sizes, schedules, course structures and teaching styles.
When I created the Bloom Pro Artist Course, I wanted to build the kind of professional makeup and hairstyling course I wish I had when I first started.
Why I Created the Bloom Pro Artist Course
I still remember taking my very first professional makeup course in London.
There were around 20 students in my class and, although I enjoyed the experience, it also showed me what I would eventually want to do differently as an educator.
The schedule was fixed, classes were large and we often had to practise makeup on one another. That meant I would spend part of the lesson practising, then another few hours sitting as someone else’s model.
Individual attention was also naturally limited in such a large class. As a beginner, I realised how valuable it is to have someone watching the little things you’re doing — how you’re holding your brush, where you’re placing a product, why something isn’t blending properly — and correcting those mistakes while they’re happening.
After my first course, I continued taking more advanced makeup and hairstyling courses and eventually became both a working makeup artist and beauty educator.
Over the years of teaching, I’ve worked with so many different skin tones, skin textures, face shapes, eye shapes and features. That experience ultimately shaped the way I wanted to teach aspiring professional artists.
So when I created Bloom Pro Academy, I built the course around the things I felt would have made my own learning experience better.
1. Maximum 2 Students Per Class
Bloom Pro was intentionally designed to be a very small learning environment.
Our Artist Course is taught either one-to-one or with a maximum of two students per instructor.
When you’re learning makeup and hairstyling professionally, the smallest details matter. Having only one or two students allows me to watch what you’re doing throughout the lesson, correct your technique as you work and spend more time helping you understand why something isn’t working.
I don’t want you to simply copy a demonstration. I want you to understand what you’re doing well enough to eventually make those decisions yourself.
2. Live Models Are Provided
This was one of the biggest things I wanted to change from my own training experience.
We arrange live models for your makeup sessions.
You don’t have to repeatedly find friends or family members who are available to come to class, and you don’t have to spend half of your lesson being another student’s model.
More importantly, working on different people is an essential part of becoming a professional makeup artist.
Throughout your training, you’ll experience different skin tones, skin types, textures, facial features and face shapes. The goal isn’t to become good at creating one look on one type of face — it’s to learn how to adapt your technique to the person sitting in front of you.
3. Makeup & Skincare Products Are Provided
Starting a professional makeup course shouldn’t mean immediately spending thousands of dollars building a kit before you even know what you like using.
During your classes, professional makeup and skincare products are provided for you to use. This gives you the opportunity to work with different formulas, textures and products while you’re learning. As you become more experienced, you’ll have a much better understanding of what you actually want to invest in for your own professional kit.
You can build your kit gradually and intentionally rather than buying everything at the beginning.
4. Flexible Scheduling
I remember how difficult a completely fixed training schedule could be, particularly when lessons ran for entire days.
That’s why flexibility became an important part of Bloom Pro. Our lessons are generally taught in manageable sessions, and students have flexibility when arranging their course schedule with us.
Whether you’re working, studying, raising a family or balancing other commitments, we want professional training to be something you can realistically fit into your life.
5. Practical Makeup & Hairstyling Training
I wanted the Bloom Pro Artist Course to prepare students for the type of work they’re realistically likely to encounter after graduation.
The 64-hour Bloom Pro Artist Course covers both professional makeup and hairstyling, with a strong focus on practical bridal, event and client-ready techniques. But learning individual looks isn’t enough.
As the course progresses, we also focus on working more efficiently, completing full looks and developing the ability to adapt what you’ve learnt to different clients. Because ultimately, professional artistry isn’t about memorising one makeup look. It’s about looking at the person in front of you and knowing what to do.
6. Support Doesn’t End at Graduation
One thing that hasn’t changed since I first wrote about Bloom Pro years ago is how I feel about my students after they graduate.
Finishing your course doesn’t mean you suddenly have to figure everything out alone. Many of my graduates still come back to me with questions, ask for feedback on their work or share what they’re doing in their careers.
Teaching someone professional makeup is more than showing them where to put eyeshadow or how to create a hairstyle. I want my students to leave understanding their technique, feeling confident enough to continue practising and knowing that they can still ask questions as they grow.
Choosing the Right Professional Makeup Course for You
There isn’t one makeup course that’s right for everybody.
When you’re comparing professional makeup courses in Singapore, look beyond the number of techniques on a syllabus. Think about how you learn best.
- Do you want a large classroom environment, or would you benefit from more individual attention?
- Will you have access to different faces to practise on?
- Are you comfortable sourcing your own models?
- Do you want to learn both makeup and hairstyling?
And, most importantly, can you imagine yourself feeling comfortable enough in that environment to make mistakes, ask questions and grow?
Bloom Pro Academy was built around the learning environment I wish I’d had when I first started. Small classes. Real faces. Hands-on practice. Personal guidance. And an environment where you can develop your skills one lesson at a time.
If that sounds like the way you’d like to learn, we’d love to be part of your first steps towards becoming a professional makeup artist.
